In We Jump

Welcome to the new home for the music I make.

I’ve been staring at this blinking cursor for a long time now trying to figure out how to start this post. I’ve deleted pages worth of first sentences. Even though stringing together words is literally my job, starting something new like this is a real challenge for me. But… challenge accepted. In we jump.

Like a lot of artists, songwriters and creatives with some varying degree of attention issues, I always feel this need for my work to be just so. “It’s not right, it needs to be a little more [fill in the blank].” And that usually serves me well. However, when I can’t find a real road map for getting it right, I bail in favor of other things that seem more pressing. But if I’m honest, what I’m actually doing is running away from the fight it takes to push a project over the finish line. So I opt for kicking the can down the road. Creating something is easy. Releasing it and pushing it? That’s a problem for Future Me. Future Me is more confident and more wise. “He’ll for sure know what to do with a great idea like this,” Today Me thinks.

But not today. The Today Me typing into this Substack is just here to share the work. Today Me understands that the music business is difficult. It is changing, and the only path to a self sustaining enterprise here is through connection. So this is Today Me opening up that possibility. I know there are those of you out there who enjoy the music that I make and would love the opportunity to be involved. Today Me is making the choice to open that door.

So here is what this space is going to be. This Substack will be where I share unreleased demos, videos, conversations with some of my favorite people, live performances, journal entries, poetry… I have a mountain of work that I love that has never seen the light of day, and now you will get to see it. This will be the home for the things I create and am interested in. This is my new home base.

I’m not setting any lofty subscriber goals here, (Maybe that’s a good job for Future Me…?) but if you want to be a part of how the music gets made, there’s a place for you here. If you decide to support the work, you’ll get a front row seat to the record-making process, merch drops, early ticket access and more. Future You will be elated.

In short, I’m here and I’m glad you are too. I will keep showing up and sharing the work as it happens… even on the days when I’m still figuring it out.
